These are Jasi’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Kuumba Centre

Kuumba was formed “to offer the missing link in heritage and cultural learning that our children would miss by not growing up in their ancestral towns” – photo: Martin Booth
“I went to a daycare at Kuumba when I was a kid, and I’ve done some cool stuff there as an adult, like interviewing and chatting with Bob Brown, a man who cofounded the Chicago chapter of the original Black Panther Party alongside the late great Fred Hampton.
“I also just think it’s got a nice name. It reminds me of Pumbaa from The Lion King, which makes me happy. Maybe Swahili is my love language? Maybe I just really like The Lion King. Who knows?”
The bit of paved stone on College Green where people skate

Skaters have long congregated on College Green – photo: Martin Booth
“I broke my wrist skating there once. I didn’t realise I had broken it for another 18 months, by which point the damage was irreversible. I’m at risk of early onset arthritis if I don’t do the regular exercises. Nowadays I go there to watch the youth skate, because they will inevitably fall over, and occasionally hurt themselves. It’s like the circle of life. It’s sort of wholesome.”
The bushes by the bowls club in St Andrew’s Park

St Andrew’s Park holds special memories for Jasi – photo: Martin Booth
“I found a hedgehog there once. I called it Sonic. I took him home; he ran away. Unrelated, I also got laid there once. It was magical, although things came to an abrupt halt when I accidentally sat on a hedgehog.”
The bottom of Nugget Hill (Nugent Hill really, but I call it Nugget Hill)

Nugent Hill starts on Arley Hill – photo: Martin Booth
“It’s pretty much like the bottom of any other hill most the year. But for a few weeks, when it dips below freezing, a big puddle of black ice forms in a dip right on the corner. There’s a bench opposite. Wrap up warm, maybe bring a hot drink or some snacks, and you’re guaranteed a wry chuckle as some unsuspecting rube fractures their coccyx on the cruel streets of Cotham.
“Now I realise this is the second place of my top-five favourite places in Bristol that’s about watching people fall over. Maybe that tells you more about me than it does about Bristol. Or maybe there’s a disproportionate amount of Bristolians falling over, due to all the ketamine in the air. That’s for you to decide.”
Cosies

Cosies is a cultural institution – photo: Martin Booth
“An institution of the Bristol and St Paul’s nightlife, Cosies has been around for as long as I can remember as a place where anyone can go enjoy some music and feel comfortable. It also hosts one of only two Black-led comedy nights in Bristol, Cultured Comedy (the other night is called What the Funny). Shameless self-plug, as I’m one of the people running Cultured Comedy. You should come.”
