My Bristol favourites: Jaya Chakrabarti

By Bristol24/7  Saturday Mar 14, 2015

Jaya Chakrabarti is founder and CEO of creative digital agency Nameless. Outside work Jaya has engaged with projects aimed at increasing democratic engagement, net neutrality, education, privacy, protecting children, women’s rights, human rights and more. She chaired the Mayor for Bristol campaign that achieved the only Yes vote in the country in May 2012 and also chairs local democracy organisation Bristol Manifesto, aimed at ensuring that the disengaged are re-engaged and empowered.

Here are Jaya’s top-five Bristol favourites:

The Watershed
“The heart and soul of our creative sector here in Bristol, joining together companies and organisations across the city. The Watershed has a brilliant bar, is a champion of independent cinema, great food and coffee… oh and inspirational leadership from Dick Penny, Clare Reddington and their brand new chair, James Touzel of TLT solicitors. Expect great things here!”

Maximillions
“OMG this place has been the downfall of many a diet I’ve started and not finished. Daily roasted meats and huge portions of salad, Maximillions has been one of Bristol’s best kept secrets for years. Jamie, their owner has kept prices low and portion sizes high. Great quality nosh with sofas upstairs. What’s not to like?”

Tiffins
Tiffins on the top of St Michael’s Hill is where I go for home cooked, nourishing Indian food. Nick and Jay Jethwa make you feel like you’ve just popped into your uncle’s for dinner. The love with which the food is made and the hospitality and warmth lavished on you makes it pretty hard to walk by without popping in, even if you’ve already had lunch.”

St Nick’s Market food stalls
“Especially Matina with the huge Kurdish wraps (freshly made bread while you watch!) and the Italian station with an amazing spinach and ricotta lasagne.”

The Bank Tavern
“Hidden down a street that connects Broad Street to one end of Broadmead, the Bank do lovely beer, they’re independent and have regular live music. Great high quality food at pub prices. If you pop in, do say hi to the landlord, Sam for me.”
