My Bristol Favourites: Keith Rundle

By Martin Booth  Friday Aug 23, 2019

Keith Rundle is the operations director of the Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District. Funded by local business rate-payers, the City Centre BID aims to make the city centre a better place for everyone who works, studies, visits or spends time there.

Keith was previously a neighbourhood police inspector in the city centre.

These are his top-five Bristol favourites:

Bristol Guild

“A legendary Bristol institution! This independent specialist department store on Park Street is the place to go when you need some gift inspiration. The Guild is a wonderful place for contemporary design buffs or if, like me, you’re looking for some peace and quiet, you can always retreat to the secret cafe upstairs, with its roof garden and great cake.”

Queen Square

“It’s incredible to think that for many years there was a dual carriageway running through this Georgian gem. Its role in the city’s notorious 1830 riots is well-known and the contrast with how it now looks shows what Bristol can do with a little bit of vision and passion. It is a truly awe-inspiring space, with its huge plane trees, symmetry and wonderful architecture.”

Pinkmans

Pinkmans is one of my favourite places to get lunch (and bacon sandwiches). It’s everything a modern bakery should be. I love the drama of watching the bakers at work, turning out the most delicious loaves and the mouth-watering smells that waft through the shop at the front overlooking Park Street. It’s also a great place to go for ad hoc meetings and catch-ups over a fine coffee.”

The River Grille

The River Grille restaurant at The Bristol Hotel is a wonderful place to spend a lazy Sunday having lunch – the views onto the Floating Harbour are a joy in any weather – often best enjoyed in the rain as an alternative to a walk around the water. The staff are always attentive, and Pavel is a great chef and cooks a wonderful piece of beef among many other treats.”

Bristol Old Vic

“We are so lucky to have such a beautiful intimate theatre in our city centre and the recent redevelopment of Bristol Old Vic is just stunning. Every time I step inside the new foyer, with its original 250-year-old wall now revealed, I’m reminded that this is a class act – both the architecture and the productions – and something we should be really proud of. If you haven’t been down there recently, you’re missing out!”
