My Bristol Favourites: Lee Williams
Lee Williams is the chief executive of Young Bristol, a charity which provides community-based youth services through a network of community youth clubs across Bristol.
From an early age, Lee was a member of Broad Plain Boys Club, then based at Broadbury Road in Knowle West, where he became a young leader and developed his passion for working with young people.
His other passion in life is football, where he has always been involved with local teams and is currently the sports therapist for Bath City.

Here are Lee’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Harbourside
“The harbourside is one of the most beautiful parts of Bristol and I enjoy walking around it with my wife, Sue. You really get a feel for the city from the harbour and I am very proud that Young Bristol provides canoeing, kayaking and gig rowing in such an amazing location from our Pooles Wharf Centre on Hotwell Road, next to the Grain Barge, which is a great pub.”
Ashton Gate Stadium
“I’m a massive sports fan and feel lucky to have the great facilities at Ashton Gate on my doorstep. I try to see as much football and rugby as possible when I don’t have other commitments to Bath City FC. I’m lucky that my daughter is an even bigger fan than me, so we get to see a lot of it!”
Browns
“Browns on Queen’s Road in Clifton is my favourite restaurant in Bristol. Not only is the food and atmosphere there great, the building itself feels like a real piece of Bristol history and is instantly recognisable to any local people.”
Barton Camp Residential Centre
“I was introduced to Barton Camp through my role as coordinator for Bristol Youth & Community Action in association with the high sheriff of Bristol. The facilities, including the pool and the sports hall, are incredible and I’m always so impressed by the work achieved there. As an organisation, Young Bristol really values the benefits of fresh air and freedom that Barton Camp offers young people, so much so that we are exploring the option of obtaining our own residential centre on the outskirts of Bristol.”
Chew Valley Lake
“To get some fresh air myself, I like to visit Chew Valley Lake, where I have fond memories with my family. It’s very calming to get out of the city for a while. And there’s the added bonus of the amazing fish and chips from Salt & Malt. My wife’s grandmother used to live in the village that was flooded to create the lake, so we also have a historical connection there as well.”
