My Bristol Favourites: Liz Mytton
Liz Mytton is a playwright, poet and coach. Her recent community project, Southside Stories, is being performed at Tobacco Factory Theatres’ Spielman Theatre on February 6 and 7.
These are Liz’s top-five Bristol favourites:
University of Bristol Theatre Collection
is needed now More than ever
“I love spending time at the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, one of the world’s largest archives of theatre history. It’s allowed me to read some rare works and plays, which has inspired me in my own work.”
Bristol Folk House
“Bristol Folk House is one of those places that has all my favourite things in one place, including coffee, food, a chance to meet people and the opportunity to learn. I’ve done all sorts there – guitar, sewing and most recently indigo dye techniques.”
Zion
“Zion in Bedminster Down is a Bristol treasure. They have a real stake in their local community and produce some excellent shows and events, from music to comedy, to regular slots for kids and families. I’ve been privileged to perform there a few times and love the commitment the team there has to equality, diversity and inclusion.”
Vintage Market
“I absolutely love a bargain, and the Vintage Market on Stokes Croft is an absolute delight. You’re guaranteed to find something unique, whether it’s a gas mask or a shiny nick-nack; and if you’re into the whole upcycling thing, then the first floor has several inspiring projects in waiting.”
Leigh Woods
“Leigh Woods is my go-to spot for relaxation. A walk amongst the leaves helps to relive tension, and there’s something about being close to trees that helps me to remember how young (!) and small I am. It’s a very grounding experience.”
