These are Luke’s top-five Bristol favourites:

The Cumberland Basin pump-track

“Although I’m pained to admit that I’m well past my skateboarding prime, I am always up for a session at the ace little pump track under the flyover. Its a great place to burn off some energy with my two boys, it’s outdoors, free, and I love that its used by kids and adults of all ages at the same time.”

Kosar Contemporary / The Artists Project Space

“The converted warehouse gallery and artist studios in Bedminster is a hub of creative and collaborative energy that I always find inspiring. My friend and fellow artist Bea Kayani is the founder and director of Kosar Contemporary and is a bit of an unsung hero in my mind. What she has achieved with the gallery – shining a light on emerging talent and helping to bring communities of artists together – has made a huge contribution to Bristol’s art scene.”

SWU.FM

SWU.FM plays cutting edge urban, electronic and dance music – photo: SWU.FM

“I love live radio so have been locked into SWU.FM pretty much consistently since its launch a few weeks’ ago and I’ve been blown away by the standard of shows that have been broadcast. Never has there been a better time for Bristol to be given a new platform to share music and sound with listeners across the city and the world. It’s great to hear sets from Bristol legends like Dazee, Jakes and Bunjy who I used to listen to on Ragga FM back in the mid 90s, local hip-hop heroes like Awkward, Benjamin One and Res, as well as all the names I’ve not heard of before but am becoming acquainted with via SWU. The best thing to happen to Bristol this year.”

Asado

“The best coleslaw in the world and the best burger in Bristol.”

The Port / Portishead Brewing Co.

“Technically not Bristol, but Portishead has a BS postcode and is where I live, so I’ve got to include The Port bar and microbrewery because it is such a great spot. Freshly made coffee, pastries and pizzas and always a top class selection of their own craft beer and local guest ales. Well worth a trip out to Portishead for a pint of Hopper IPA alone!”
