These are Miguel’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Wapping Wharf
“Wapping Wharf is my home away from home. I’ve been working here for two years and it’s thanks to this tight-knit community that Bristol now feels like home for me, having grown up in Canada. When it comes to food there is something for everyone here; it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon when you’re hungry.
“A special shout-out to Bertha’s Pizza, which has to be considered as one of the best pizzas in Bristol. I’m not only saying that because I’m on their payroll; they are genuinely producing amazing pizzas. If you’ve never been before, order the meat & heat. Insider tip: ask for red onions to be added on.”
Dawson’s Bakery

“Two words: custard tart. Two of the sweetest words you can speak aloud. They’re a must try at Dawson’s Bakery. You’ll usually find Simon throughout the week at either the Harbourside or Temple Quay food markets. Also try Simon’s sausage rolls; the Mexican chipotle one is my usual choice.”
Deli@HERE

“Deli@HERE on Bath Road is where I go when I’m needing to get some work done and I’m wanting to get out of the house. They have semi-private booths in their seating area that are perfect for avoiding distractions. And they have great food and coffee too, which is no surprise as it’s brought to you by the same team at the family-run Deli@SandyPark on nearby Sandy Park Road in Brislington.”
Ding Sing Oriental Supermarket

“My go-to spot in Bristol for Chinese steamed buns. The char siu baos (BBQ pork buns) at Ding Sing Oriental Supermarket on Fairfax Street are my favourite. They’re pillowy little clouds of deliciousness.”
Props
“Props is an amazing charity that are empowering and training adults with learning disabilities to find rewarding work opportunities in Bristol. I’ve had the pleasure of spending an afternoon at their site in the Vassall Centre in Fishponds, where the trainees in the printability workshop taught a team of us the art of printing t-shirts.
“Props has developed tailored enterprises in partnership with their trainees to enable them to pursue their interests; a recent example of this has been the addition of their bike maintenance program. It’s truly worth checking out their website to find out the full scope of the work they are doing and the many ways to support them.”
