My Bristol Favourites: Nectaria Pospori
MoveGB fitness instructor, Nectaria Pospori has recently launched a new fitness concept, GroovyGlutes, what she describes as a “sassy, high-energy fitness programme for women focusing on strengthening and toning the gluteal muscles (butt) and core, using unique resistance ‘booty bands’ and the medium of dance. After a successful Bristol launch, Nectaria plans to roll-out the concept and recruit instructors across the UK.
Here are Nectaria’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Old Duke

“I had just arrived to the UK in September 2004 and was exploring the area with my first ever Bristol friend, Maggie, and we followed the music. Just like it still is today, that night the Old Duke on King Street was welcoming, charming and the small cosy space was filled with magic that a band of four 80-year-olds were creating with their instruments. England was suddenly the most exotic place on Earth! Maggie and I left the pub completely drunk after only one glass of wine!”
Saffron
“Saffron on Boyces Avenue in Clifton Village is my number one cafe-restaurant for lunch! Not only do they serve the most delicious chicken salad (it’s all in their marinade) and mezze dishes, but they have the most friendly staff too. To top this, they are doggy friendly so I can pop in with Penelope the poodle any time. I always finish my Saffron experience with a Turkish (ahem, Greek!) coffee.”
The Alma Tavern
“I’ve watched the most random plays at this theatre above a pub and they’ve all been an experience! Intimate, affordable and always unexpected, the Alma Tavern Theatre just can’t go wrong. The pub part is awesome in every way too, plus a lot of dear friends have celebrated their special events there so I’ve got an emotional bond with this place.”
Piloexercise Studios
“Piloexercise on Millennium Parade in the Harbourside is Bristol’s new gem. Owners Pilo and Ilaria have created something amazing in the heart of the city. This cool studio with a long mirrored wall and funky lights is always buzzing with amazing music, dancing, fitness classes and beautiful people. This year they have an amazing lineup of international presenters (as seen on viral videos) turn up. I had the launch event for my new fitness programme at the studio and now I proudly teach regular classes there.”
The Lost & Found
“At the end of a working week around 5pm, you’ll find me at the bar at The Lost & Found just up from the Clifton Triangle ordering a negroni for my fiancé. We’ll sit at the lounge surrounded by stylish wall pictures and flowers, I’ll kiss him and say to him ‘thank you for working hard all week’ (which he does). He loves it! So it’s become a little tradition. And yes, Penelope the poodle is welcome there too, which is always a plus for me!”
