My Bristol favourites: Pamela Bell
Pamela Bell is the leader of the newly formed Bristol Symphony Orchestra, founded this year under the baton of William Goodchild. Pamela relocated from London to Bristol in 2005 and successfully led Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra from 2010 to 2015. Bristol Symphony Orchestra’s launch concert will be the High Sheriff’s Concert on June 18 at St George’s.
Here are Pamela’s top five Bristol favourites:
Gloucester Road
is needed now More than ever
“A wide range of wonderful independent shops and people. You can always find a unique gift in one of the shops. Nearby, The Canteen on Stokes Croft and Thali Cafe in Montpelier are my favourite eating places as being a new mum, they both have plenty of space to feed the little one.”
Kudacan
“This soft play centre and cafe just off Gloucester Road is a brilliant place to relax with under-fives. Kudacan is independent, clean, great service and really friendly staff. It’s a place to go with your little one to catch up with friends or you can go on your own. There are always chatty mums and dads there!”
St George’s
“St George’s is a world class concert venue in the city centre. Wonderful acoustics, varied programmes – to suit the tastes of the most eclectic music listener. A venue that supports both professional and amateur musicians.”
Maitreya Social
“Maitreya Social on St Mark’s Road in Easton is no longer a hidden gem – the secret is out already! This is what I love about Bristol; the most amazing vegetarian restaurant, not pretentious, wonderful quality food and excellent value. If you have not been there, you have missed out!”
Harbourside
“We sometimes forget how beautiful our environment is; just taking a stroll as the sun sets, taking a ferry ride, sitting by the waterfront people watching. Taking time out to relax; this is what is unique about this beautiful city. The added bonus is that such beauty is accessible to all.”
