My Bristol Favourites: Sandy Hore-Ruthven
Sandy Hore-Ruthven is the chief executive of the Creative Youth Network, which from June will be rolling out the annual £2.5m youth service across Bristol. Creative Youth Network will be the largest independent provider of youth services in the South West and will have an impact on the lives of more than 6,000 young people each year.
Here are Sandy’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Station
is needed now More than ever

Welcome Wednesdays at The Station is a regular drop-in session for young refugees and asylum-seekers living in Bristol, enabling them to meet new people in the city, improve their English and get some extra support in a safe environment
“The Station on Silver Street is Creative Youth Network’s youth hub. I have to say this as I work there, but when I walk through the building every day I see all of Bristol flowing through our doors; from young people in crisis getting the support they need to dance and film groups, Ujima Radio, and corporate hirers of our space. I like to see people from different backgrounds mixing. It’s what makes our city great.”
Arnos Vale Cemetery

The Victorian garden cemetery of Arnos Vale sits in 45 acres
“I live just opposite Arnos Vale Cemetery and walk there often. It holds so much history of Bristol and is a green oasis. I particularly like that some of it is well manicured and some just left to nature.”
Ashton Court mountain bike track

“I love my cycling and even though I’m getting older and slower, a quick run around the track in Ashton Court and Leigh Woods is a great hour away from it all. We’re so lucky to have this amazing space so close to the city centre.”
Hengrove Park

“Hengrove Park is the best park for kids in Bristol and I’ve spent hours there watching my children play in summer and winter. They are older teenagers now but that simply means we moved on from the slides to the skate park and now the cinema next door.”
Bristol’s charities

“We’ve got such a vibrant range of charities in Bristol that I see working hard for our vulnerable residents and environment every day. They bring in money to the city but more importantly they are where the best of Bristol’s passion and kindness lives. Often led by people who have dedicated their lives to a cause, our city would be a far worse place without them.”
