My Bristol Favourites: Sasha Acheson
Former Bristol Bears, England and Barbarians player Sasha Acheson is now director of rugby at the Bristol Bisons.
Founded in 2005, the Bisons offer an inclusive space for all to play rugby, particularly those from the LGBTQ+ community.
The Bisons are currently starring in a new documentary for TNT Sports, Bristol Bisons: Pride on the Pitch, following the highs and lows of the club both on and off the rugby field.

These are Sasha’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Albatross

“Albatross on North Street make the best coffee and they are incredible at supporting local events. I have previously spoken there during their ‘Talk Wordie To Me’ series that they hosted. They are just a fantastic spot for all Bristolians!”
Valesco Fitness Collective

“The most badass and incredible gyms, run by the most badass incredible women. Valesco in St Philip’s Marsh was a gym that I joined after stopping playing rugby, and the thing that struck me about this gym was how inclusive a vibe and space it was. Everyone felt like they truly want each other to succeed without insecurity or feeling inadequate being in a space around incredibly muscular people. No egos. They also were always willing to provide me or anyone else with an adaptation to an exercise (rugby injury haunts!) so that I could still be a part of the session and get the most out of the class being provided. Highly recommended.”
Cafe Kino

“I really love what these guys stand for. Cafe Kino on Stokes Croft produces very ethical food and is community-led and based. The burgers are absolutely delicious, and they have a flat management structure, which means every one of them that is involved runs the business equally. They are also not-for-profit, have an awesome community space downstairs which holds really cool theatre productions and lots of other events, as well as promoting local artists on the walls.”
Trika Yoga

“Now I’m not a yogi, but Trika Yoga on North Street has to be one of the most special community spaces in Bristol. My partner used to be a teacher here, and the amount of richness in the people we met, and the happiness this space brings, as well as the phenomenal yoga (I went to a couple of classes) make it on my top-five.”
Eden Cafe

“Eden Cafe in Clifton Village is a family-run business which again serves the most ethical and incredible food. The reception is always amazingly warm and inviting, and you feel like part of the family going there! They also allow dogs in and are really amazing with kids.”
