My Bristol Favourites: Will Tavare
Born and bred in Bristol, Gloucestershire’s Will Tavaré scored a century on debut for his hometown club and hasn’t looked back since, becoming a fixture at the top of the Royal London One Day Champions’ batting order.
Gloucestershire’s first T20 game of the season takes place on Friday, May 20 against Sussex. For tickets and more information, visit www.gloscricket.co.uk/tickets.
Here are Will’s top five Bristol favourites:
is needed now More than ever
Park Street
“Park Street is the place where I go to catch up with mates. There are so many great places for food along there, you are spoilt for choice. You can find pretty much any type of food along there but more often than not the lads end up in Nando’s if we are out as a team.”
The Downs
“Being brought up near there, the Downs has always been a big part of my life. When I was younger I used to play football and cricket there all the time. My primary school, Westbury Park, also had its annual sports day there. It is lovely that even though we live in a big city there is a place that feels like you are out in the countryside.”
Racks Bar & Kitchen
“If I am out in Bristol – either with the Gloucestershire lads or my club, Bristol CC, we always seem to end up in Racks. It is a great place to watch sport on TV, the food is good and we have had many a good night there.”
The Avon Gorge Hotel
“If we ever have friends or family coming to visit, we always take them to the Avon Gorge Hotel. The view across the city and the Clifton Suspension Bridge is amazing and it is a great spot to have a drink or grab a bite to eat. It is also one of the places we go as a team to catch up.”
Friday night T20 cricket at the Brightside Ground
“When it comes to cricket you can’t beat a Friday night at the Brightside Ground watching Gloucestershire in the NatWest T20 Blast. T20 is the most exciting, action-packed form of the game and we have plenty of big-hitters in the team who are well worth watching, including our captain Michael Klinger who was the top player in the country last season. On Friday, May 20 we play Sussex in the first ever match under floodlights at the ground and the boys can’t wait. The atmosphere will be electric and I urge people to come down and get behind the lads.”
