My Bristol Favourites: Wriggle
Wriggle is an app that brings on-the-day exclusive deals at independent food and drink venues in Bristol, that is soon set to expand nationwide.
Here are the Wriggle team’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Katie & Kim’s Kitchen
Sam: “Having graduated to their very own premises, you can now find this funny pair taking pride of place on (probably) the most attractive road in the city, Picton Street in Montpelier. Katie & Kim’s Kitchen boasts (potentially) the largest table in the Western Hemisphere. They serve up (without doubt) the best brunch you’ll find this side of the moon. They’re obsessive about food – in a good way – tasteful decorators and the warmest of hosts.”

The Ping Pong Parlour
Rob: “I love table tennis. The Ping Pong Parlour is the best spot to play in Bristol. It’s a simple concept. Based in a church in Easton, these guys set up six or seven ping-tables, whack on some great music and off you go. Bring a few beers and mix up partners to play other friendly punters. You’re guaranteed a fun evening.”
The Canteen
Yasmin: “The Canteen seems to have it all: great and affordable home-cooked food, free live music every night with amazing bands and DJs and a vibrant atmosphere. Every time I have friends visiting it’s the obvious place to go. It represents all the things I love about Bristol: independent, lively, friendly and supportive of the local art and music scenes.”
Sky Kong Kong
Andy: “Tucked away beside the Bearpit, you could easily walk past this stripped-back unit mistaking it for an art space or as still under construction. What makes Sky Kong Kong special is the owner and chef, Wizzy. She worked at The Greenhouse in Mayfair under head chef Michel Bras prior to setting up in Bristol and has serious food credentials. The aim of this new venture is to present good food to people at affordable prices. She’s crafted a menu that’s essentially Korean, but inspired by her own allotment and local suppliers. Up at 4am to get to the fishmongers, each day’s meal is planned by what’s available through hand-picking the ingredients herself.”
Watershed
Harvey: “The Watershed offers film to fill most people’s boots. Showcasing the best in small budget British and foreign films, as well as the occasional Hollywood heavyweight, the Watershed provides the complete cinema package. The ethically-run cafe and bar has a great vibe both before and after showings, especially for discussing the intricacies of what you’ve just seen on the silver screen. Whether you’re a film buff or film duff, there’s no better place to munch popcorn, grab a beer and, oh yeah, watch a film.”
