Bristol24/7 wins award for work experience programme

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Jun 26, 2018

Bristol24/7 has been named amongst the winners at the 2018 Bristol Employment, Skills and Learning Awards, held at City Hall.

The awards are an annual celebration of the work of partners, employers, learners and staff across Bristol, and this year awards were handed out in the categories of community learning, apprenticeships, employment support, adult learning and experience of work.

Speaking to a packed hall, Councillor Anna Keen, cabinet member with responsibility for education and skills, spoke of her pride that Bristol was celebrating its status as a learning city, and stressed that we have a collective responsibility to create pathways to work for all, as not everyone begins from the same starting point. She then handed over to Jane Taylor, head of service at Bristol Employment, Skills and Learning, who announced the award winners in each category.

The event was a celebration of achievement across Bristol’s education sectors

Bristol24/7 was nominated by Bristol WORKS, part of Bristol Learning City Partnership, for an employer partner award on the strength of our work experience programme and social impact projects, which aim to engage the local community – particularly young people – in high-quality independent journalism, and to facilitate the telling of stories from Bristol’s many and varied communities.

Councillor Anna Keen said: “Bristol24/7 won as they have continually offered support to Bristol WORKS, leading a variety of activities including career insight assemblies with Square Food Foundation and linking Bristol WORKS with other partner organisations. Bristol WORKS needs engaged organisations like Bristol24/7 to make sure we can improve the opportunities and aspirations of all children across the city.”
