Listen and watch: The Young Chefs story

By Hannah Cornford  Wednesday Jan 9, 2019

Students at Artswork Media, a Bath Spa University led production company, have made a film telling the story of the young graduates of our first 12-week How To Be A chef course as part of our Better Bristol initiative.

The film follows Will, Josh, Letisha and Sam as they learn to cook in the kitchen with Square Food Foundation and use their skills to serve hundreds of people at the launch of our Better Business event at Colston Hall.

The young chefs also appeared on our first ever Bristol24/7 podcast, recorded in December. The podcast also features an interview with Natalie Fee, founder of City to Sea, Bristol24/7s Woman of the Year 2018.

It was made by Video and Photography Intern Nathalie Schenk, who is on an extended internship with Bristol24/7 from ROC van Amsterdam, where she is studying a media and editorial diploma.

We would like to thank everyone involved in How To Be A Chef. Creating projects that have a direct impact on people’s lives is at the heart of what we want to achieve through Better Bristol. One of our key aims has been to create opportunities for young people.

The How To Be A Chef training programme was set up with Square Food Foundation to inspire the next generation of chefs, address the skills gap in the food industry and give young people who are not in education or employment the opportunity to learn new skills and gain work experience.

The project would not have been possible without the support of our key social impact partners UWE Bristol and Wapping Wharf, nor the support of Spike Island Cafe, Folk House Cafe, Bravas, Boston Tea Party, Box-E, Harts Bakery, Fosters Catering, Total Produce, The Community Farm in Chew Magna, Bellita, The Bart Ingredient Company, The Park Cafe and Farmdrop.
