Meet the local hero putting sustainability at the heart of education
Meet El Walker – the latest of an inspiring range of local heroes that are being celebrated in a campaign to encourage more people to take positive action to help tackle poverty, inequality and climate change.
As part of the countdown to the major climate conference, COP-26, being held in Glasgow in November, the Global Goals Centre in Bristol is highlighting the work of a different Bristol hero every week who is doing something that helps reach that Goal.
Goal number four focuses on education, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
is needed now More than ever
El Walker delivers quality education on a daily basis is super passionate about sustainability and empowering her eco team to make a real difference.
El was nominated by Sustainable Hive CIC, who believe there is no doubt that every year she is teaching and influencing the next generation of eco-activists: young people who will lead by example and not be afraid to stand up and be counted for what they believe in.
“Through our curriculum, we’ve worked really hard to embed sustainability rather than make it a one-off event,” said El.
“It’s really important that children understand from a young age about the world around them.”
Global Goals Centre, an education charity using creative ways to inspire a fairer, greener future, has worked in partnership with 17 local community organisations, Bristol24/7’s Better Bristol and creative agency Tusko, to create this campaign, which is supported by Bristol City Council and the Bristol Climate Hub.
