Raising awareness around blood donation in the black community
It’s the last week in the campaign run by the Global Goals Centre, in collaboration with Bristol24/7, which celebrates a new hero every week for their work to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change.
One hero in Bristol has been celebrated per week as a countdown to the major climate conference, COP-26, which is being held in Glasgow this November. The inspiring content aims to engage a wider audience with the climate and inequality agendas and show the relevance of these issues to our daily lives.
In the final week of the campaign, the focus of the Sustainable Development Goals is working in partnership and our hero is Adebomi Olaytin.
is needed now More than ever
Adebomi was nominated by the organisation Black Seeds Environmental Social Justice Network, who were amazed by her work looking after physical and mental health, whilst also caring for nature.
“We are bringing together 25 partners to help spread the word of our project #UjimaKeepTheBeat. Nobody knows what’s around the corner and anybody can be in a situation. It’s all about preparing and understanding,” said Adebomi.
The #UjimaKeepTheBeat campaign aims to raise awareness around blood, organ and stem cell donation in the black community. Through workshops, peer educators and radio shows, they’re highlighting the importance of the issue and encouraging people to become donors.
The Black Seeds Environmental Social Justice Network recognises that there is more than just one way to be an ‘environmentalist’. They want to broaden narratives to include holistic care for people and the planet. They aim to provide a platform for environmentalists to socialise, gain support, seek opportunities, innovate and develop their expertise on the issues.
The Global Goals Centre is an education charity using creative ways to inspire a fairer, greener future, has worked in partnership with 17 local community organisations, Bristol24/7’s Better Bristol and creative agency Tusko, to create this campaign, which is supported by Bristol City Council and the Bristol Climate Hub.
