Young chefs programme
Following the launch of EatDrink24/7 in 2017, we embarked on a new project to inspire the next generation of chefs in Bristol.
“If you ask any Bristol head chef what they want more than anything else, the answer will be a driven, passionate and willing-to-learn young chef,” says Barny Haughton, award-winning food educator and founder of Square Food Foundation.
To inspire the next generation of chefs and address the skills gap in the food industry, Bristol24/7 partnered with Square Food Foundation to deliver a short training programme, including workshops with some of Bristol’s top chefs. This culminated in a sold-out Autumn Feast in November 2017, held at Paintworks Events Space and attended by 200 guests.
is needed now More than ever
The programme engaged ten young people and married them up with some of Bristol’s most knowledgeable and influential culinary experts including Michelin Star chef, Josh Eggleton and Imogen Waite, Chef/Owner of Bravas, Bakers & Co. and Cargo Cantina.
A short documentary produced by Tusko Films captured the journey of the young chefs from taster day through to the inaugural Bristol24/7 Autumn Feast. Watch the documentary and follow the journey.
Following the success of the pilot project, we are developing a second phase of the programme. This will be an accredited 12-week course, led by Square Food Foundation starting in September 2018. It will provide real skills to young people who aren’t at work or in other education. Over three months, the young people will get an understanding of how the food industry works and an opportunity to work in some of Bristol’s best restaurants, food producers and artisans.
More information about the 12-week course will be announced soon.

The first phase of this project would not have been possible without our key social impact partners UWE Bristol and our project sponsors: Jongor Hire, Infiniti Bristol, Wapping Wharf, Budvar, Zazu’s Kitchen Pubs and Butcombe.
