What’s happening with Better Bristol – August 2020

By Caitlin Bowring  Monday Aug 10, 2020

Last month we told you about the launch of a new Better Bristol pilot project to recruit a team of Community Reporters.

The pilot was made possible by the support of you – our members – and aimed to give people from underrepresented groups the opportunity to become paid reporters, with access to training and mentoring from our editorial team.

We recruited five reporters in June, and each of them shared hyper-local news from their areas of Bristol.

The pilot project was a success and we’re now excited to announce that, thanks to a fantastic £40,000 funding from The Social Enterprise Support Fund, we’re able to expand this project to more areas across Bristol.

The funding will also enable us to adapt our other Better Bristol projects that have been on hold due to Covid-19 – including the Young Chefs programme and the Stories from Our City filmmakers course – so that we can deliver digital training.

The lack of inclusion in the media and other creative sectors is an issue we’re extremely passionate about, and we’ll have more news on our plans to widen this conversation next month.

Until then, here’s a reminder of all our Better Bristol projects.
