What’s happening with Better Bristol? – November 2020

By Caitlin Bowring  Tuesday Nov 10, 2020

The need for local news and information has been greater than ever this year. As many of our Better Bristol projects have had to take a break due to Covid-19, we’ve focused on telling these unheard stories from across the city.

One of these new projects, 12 Communities 1 Bristol, is a series of local oral history podcasts made in partnership with BCfm, Bristol Museums, Bristol Archives, and UWE Bristol.

Initially funded by The National Heritage Lottery Fund, we’ve also been able to fund the podcasts thanks to the support of our members and funding for our Community Reporters project.

Part of this project has involved looking at how the media can be more inclusive. Last month we also hosted a panel discussion on how the creative industries in Bristol can create an inclusive future for the city.

The event featured Laila Mckenzie, the founder Parallel Dimensions, Mel Rodrigues, the director of TedxBristol and founder of Gritty Talent, Mo Ali, a philosopher, poet and spoken word artist, and Neil Maggs, a journalist, broadcaster and filmmaker.

The discussion kicked off our Bristol24/7 Presents… free event series looking at the future of the city. The next event – Building Back Greener, Fairer, Stronger – is happening online in December.
