‘Women should feel that they can chase any ambition they like’
Over the past couple of weeks we have been sharing interviews from some of the winners of The Wonderful Women Awards. These awards aim to honour the women that are doing great things for the Bristol community.
Bristol Women’s Voice (BWV) have set up these awards as part of their International Women’s Day celebrations. It is also part of their initiative to work towards women’s equality in Bristol.
Jessica Wright received a Wonderful Women award for her work within the community of Bedminster down. Through her programme of events at Zion, including comedy, theatre and children’s activities, Jessica is working towards bringing the community together and improving well-being.
is needed now More than ever
We put some questions to her:

The Wonderful Women Awards ceremony
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that things will always work out in the end and that I am more resilient and resourceful that I might realise.
Which women have inspired you?
I have been inspired by many women over many years. Each has played their part in shaping my thoughts and opinions, including, of course, my mother. One lady in particular, Barbara Maines, an educational psychologist and publisher, was particularly influential to me through her life and death.
What do you want to see change for women in Bristol?
I would like all women to feel they can chase any ambition or path they like.
What are your hopes for your local community in 2018?
I would like to see my local community become more integrated and tolerant. I would also like another bar or restaurant in the area!
