How to be a festival massage diva

By Ann Sheldon  Tuesday May 26, 2015

After training in Holistic Massage at Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork, Jess Kennedy decided to go on the festival trail. First she needed to sort out a car, a tent – and learn to drive.

What made you want to do massage at festivals?
Because it’s a fantastic working environment that allowed me to enjoy myself, use my skills and work for myself.  Getting to be on the road all summer, being outdoors doing a job that I love.

How did you pick your tent? I opted for the lotus bell tent. For the same ground space as a bell tent, they’re roomier inside due to the oval shaped walls. I wanted it to feel light and on a hot summer’s day. It’s a beautiful tent that looks really inviting.

Did you live in it?
I mostly stayed there.  Bedded down on the sheepskin rugs and floor cushions, heaven!

What did you travel in?
Honda Jazz – a small car, but with the seats down, really roomy inside.  Fits in all my kit and enough room to have a nap in there if needed!

What are the best things about doing massage at festivals?
The amount and variety of people I worked with in a short space of time. I loved being on the road, living in my beautiful tent, waking up in lovely green spaces every morning, being surrounded by likeminded people.

Same again this year?
Yes this summer I have nine festivals booked in already including Lunar, Big Green, Eden and Audio Farm

Most memorable moments?
Giving a massage by the main stage with Tom Jones playing live in the back ground. – Massaging next to the drumming circle (great sound track, more relaxing than you think) – Popping out for a cuppa at lunch and passing by the naked dancing work shop!
