The County Ground has hosted England previously

Two members of the England cricket team, Alex Hartley and Tammy Beaumont, unveiled the Women’s World Cup countdown clock in Cabot Circus on International Women’s Day alongside Bristol mayor Marvin Rees and Gloucestershire CCC chief executive Will Brown.

Beaumont said: “This is women’s standalone tournament and it’s about showcasing women’s cricket, but also women’s sport as a whole.

“It’s really important that we take that and run with it, and try and inspire as many girls as we can by playing exciting cricket and promoting a sport in a way that shows that.

“I’m really hoping that some girl will come and watch us at Bristol, and in 10 years’ time she’ll make her England debut and become England captain. I think that’s the kind of story you’d love to hear.”

Rees added: “We want to talk about three things for sport this year one is how do we increase participation, secondly how do we bring world class sports to the city, of which this is a fantastic, timely example, and thirdly how to we create opportunities of people with talent to get access to the emotional and the physical coaching opportunities they need to become world class athletes.”
