England women clinch series win in Bristol with victory over India
England bounced back from defeat in Derby by comfortably beating India at Bristol’s Seat Unique Stadium, winning their Twenty20 series in the process.
India opened with the sun setting over the home of Gloucestershire Cricket Club but were stunned by a clinical bowling performance from England. Much to the crowd’s delight they found themselves 35-5 after just nine overs.
The visiting team, backed by the supporting shouts of their vocal fans, managed to pull themselves back into contention with a strong finish from Richa Ghosh and left England chasing 123 to win.
is needed now More than ever
As India’s innings came to an end, the warmth of golden hour dissipated into a brisk September evening and pints were swapped for hot chocolates as England’s batters took to the field.
Yet, in spite of the cold setting in, the crowd were captivated by their team’s brilliant batting and the volume emanating from the stands increased with every over.
The home side secured victory on the night with ten balls to spare and will go into Sunday’s one day international series against the same opponent brimming with confidence.
The win caps a big week for women’s sport in Bristol, as England’s rugby team thrashed Wales at Ashton Gate on Wednesday evening.
