First use of floodlights at Brightside Ground

By Martin Booth  Friday May 20, 2016

Bristol cricketing history was made on Friday night with the first game played under floodlights at the Brightside Ground.

The floodlights – now an unmissable part of the Bristol skyline – were called into play on the opening day of the NatWest T20 Blast season.

Sussex were the opposition, posting a huge total of 242 for five after being put into bat, a total which included 14 sixes and six penalty runs for Gloucestershire’s slow over rate.

The home side then fell tantalisingly close to an unlikely victory, finishing just one run behind their Duckworth-Lewis target of 84 as rain stopped play after 7.3 overs.

The next T20 games at the Brightside Ground are versus Glamorgan on Friday, June 10 and versus Somerset on Friday, June 17, both beginning at 6.30pm. For more information, visit www.gloscricket.co.uk/natwest-t20-blast/
