Glos get ready for upcoming T20 season
Gloucestershire are getting ready for the upcoming Vitality Blast T20 season in which they face Kent Spitfires away for their first fixture on May 24.
Glos will take on Glamorgan on the evening of Friday, May 26 in their first home fixture.
The Shire were runners-up in the Blast in 2021 and finished fifth last season.
is needed now More than ever
Jack Taylor, white-ball Captain for Gloucestershire, told Bristol 24/7: “We’re approaching this season with a lot of enthusiasm and tenacity, like every year.
“Maybe last year we didn’t step up enough, but we’ve signed some new players from different backgrounds who I think will add a great presence to the team.”
Gloucestershire recently added Grant Roelofsen, South African batter and wicketkeeper, to their squad.
The 26-year-old big-hitter has an average of 34.58 or above across all three formats of the game.
Another South African, fast bowler Marchant De Lange, came to the Seat Unique Stadium in August 2022 and is preparing for the coming season.
The 32-year-old will qualify as a domestic player this year thanks to his wife’s British passport.
Pakistani left-hander, Zafar Gohar, recently renewed his contract for two years and will stay at the Shire until at least the end of 2024.
Gohar impressed at Gloucestershire’s One-Day Cup campaign, taking 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 4.69, the joint-most for Gloucestershire alongside Paul van Meekeren.
Taylor said of the new signings: “Grant Roelofsen is a great batter. I think he will add a lot of strength.
“We’ve also got Marchant de Lange, another South African. He has a great right arm and that will add some much needed height and pace.
“Zafar Gohar is another one of our stars. He’s got great all-round skills and we’re glad he’s committed to us.”
