International cricket to return to Bristol
One-day internationals will be played in Bristol against Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka over the next few years.
But Gloucestershire Cricket’s chief executive revealed that he is “very disappointed” that the Brightside Ground’s bid to be a host venue for a new Twenty20 tournament played between UK cities was unsuccessful.
The England & Wales Cricket Board announced that Bristol will host five one-day international games between 2020 and 2024; against Australia in 2020, Sri Lanka in 2021, South Africa in 2022 and two as-yet unconfirmed countries in 2023 and 2024.
is needed now More than ever
Gloucestershire CEO Will Brown said: “We are absolutely delighted to have helped Bristol continue its now rich tradition of delivering top class international cricket.”
He added: “We were very disappointed that such a diverse, vibrant and populous city as Bristol was overlooked for the new T20 tournament but we remain excited about the future for Gloucestershire Cricket, the Brightside Ground and the wider sports agenda in the region and we look forward to delivering this exciting selection of international matches.”
