Looking forward to a day of cycling on car-free streets
A celebration of cycling is coming to Bristol on Sunday, with high-speed races in the morning and the 6km course remaining closed to cars in the afternoon for a family-friendly ride.
Now part of the HSBC UK GP Series, the Bristol Grand Prix will see some of the UK and Europe’s best professional teams battle it out with local talent in the UK’s fastest growing city centre race.
The action starts at 8am with the men’s category 3/4 race featuring some of the South West’s up and coming and established club riders, followed by the Women’s Bristol Grand Prix at 9am and the Lobster Pictures Bristol Grand Prix at 10.30am.

Then from 1.30pm to 4.30pm it’s time for the HSBC UK Let’s Ride Bristol event on a virtually identical course to the morning’s races (just missing off the steep loop around the Colston Hall).
The free-to-attend event will get underway at College Green providing participants with a host of activities to take part in along the route.
Julie Harrington, chief executive of British Cycling, said: “Bristol played host to a fantastic event last year, and we’ve worked hard – alongside Bristol City Council and local businesses and attractions – to ensure that HSBC UK Let’s Ride Bristol will again be a truly enjoyable, free and family-friendly day out which showcases the best of the city and the real benefits of cycling.”
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees added: “July 8 looks set to be a great day for cycling in Bristol. Not only is there the opportunity for everyone to enjoy riding the streets traffic-free, but you also have a chance to see some great racing in the morning as part of the Bristol Grand Prix on the same track.”
