Seven places in Bristol to watch the 2018 World Cup

By Bristol24/7  Friday May 11, 2018

We’ve waited four long years, but now it’s upon us: the groups have been drawn and the FIFA 2018 World Cup kicks off in Russia from June 14-July 15. No matter which team you’re waving on (whether through genuine loyalty or office sweepstake), we’ve rounded up the best spots across the city to settle in for the month.

 Racks

With 12 huge screens and a projector, Racks is the perfect place to enjoy a drink while cheering England  on for World Cup glory. Tickets and packages are available for all of England’s Group G fixtures, guaranteeing you a seat with a cracking view. Match day offers are also available to everyone, including a steak sandwich a bottle of beer and a guaranteed view of the screen for the princely sum of £10, so you don’t have to turn up five hours early and jostle for position to get a glimpse of the action. Big groups can also be catered for.

Ashton Gate

Ashton Road, Bedminster, Bristol, BS3 2EJ

Fans will be able to watch all of England’s World Cup games this summer at the dedicated fan village. It’s been reinstated following the success of the village during the 2016 European Championships, which attracted huge crowds. Featuring a Prosecco bar, gin bar and a cocktail bar so those who don’t fancy a pint can stay hydrated, it will open at 11am for afternoon kick-offs.

Prince Street Social

37-41 Prince Street, Bristol, BS1 4PS

With two TVs and a projector, you will always be able to see a screen at this friendly restaurant and bar just off Queen Square. A special express menu will be offered during the World Cup – fill in a red or yellow card with your order and your food (including a burger and pint deal for £10 or sharing nachos for £6) will be delivered to your seat. You can even order via app if walking to the bar seems too strenuous.

Motion

74-78 Avon Street, St Philip’s, Bristol, BS2 0PX

It might be better known as a spot to dance into the wee hours, but the nightclub around the back of Temple Meads will open from 6pm on days that England are playing their Group G matches. A £6 ticket grants you entry to watch the game on the big screen, and gets you a complementary ice-cold pint; alternatively, buddy up with some friends and for £20 you get four tickets and a whole pitcher for free. A barbecue will provide the food, and there will be live music before and after the game.

Bristol Beer Factory Tap Room

291 North Street, Southville, Bristol, BS3 1JP

The Bristol Beer Factory Taproom is doing £3 pints for every World Cup match, and bringing the competition’s multicultural flair right to your tastebuds by selling bottles for drink-in and take-away from half of the countries in the tournament. Countries that make it through to the quarter-finals will also be celebrated in beer-tasting events that celebrate the flavours of their nations.

The Beehive

Wellington Hill West, Horfield, Bristol, BS9 4QY

Football fans will be buzzing with excitement at The Beehive’s plans to expand their existing wine range, and will be serving – by the bottle – an international selection of wines from Argentina, Australia, England, France, Portugal and Spain. And how could anyone forget the good ol’ Russian vodka, that’s already been bought in and is waiting for you at kick-off.

The Grace

197 Gloucester Road, Bristol, BS7 8BG

Alongside screening the World Cup, The Grace will also be offering customers the chance to try a different cocktail connected with one of the countries playing that day, kicking things off on June 14 with a Dirty Vodka Martini in honour of the hosts, Russia. Other highlights from the first few days will include a Brazilian Bombeirinho, Mexican Michelada, and of course Pisco Sours, so there’s sure to be something for every taste.
