After deadline day, the loan window returns
So, the transfer window came and went without too many dramas for the side from the south of our city. Richard O’Donnell was signed on a permanent deal which looks a sensible decision to give us decent cover/competition for Fielding.
It seems in general across the much-hyped deadline day that teams were less inclined to indulge in some frantic last minute spending. This undoubtedly is bad news for Sky Sports and other such media outlets that seem to revel in the grotesque overspending that has littered recent transfer deadline days.
Hopefully it is a sign that clubs are being a little bit more organised with themselves as opposed to resorting to last minute frantic splashing of cash.
As the club has alluded to, we are still in need of a striker and I guess it will be a case of watch this space when the loan window reopens next week. Who we will get is pretty much a mystery, I would say, but I think we could do much worse than Norwich’s Northern Ireland star Karl Lafferty. Anyway, only time will tell.
It appears the rumour mill surrounding our new manager goes on and on – albeit mostly in the local rag. Of the names linked with us this week, Lee Johnson and Gary Monk stick out the most but for different reasons.
I am a big fan of Lee, or “little Lee” as my brothers and I use to refer to him. He is doing well at Barnsley. I’ve actually just watched his side reach the final of the Johnston’s Paint Trophy.
But he is inexperienced, and a former player of course. Ex-players don’t always make good managers and for some reason I feel the fans never really appreciated the son of our former boss meaning he wouldn’t necessarily have the full support of the crowd.
Slight contraindication perhaps, but I think Gary Monk would be a great choice. OK, I concede he is also pretty inexperienced, but not long ago he was being talked about as a future England boss.
Couple together the fact his Swansea side played very attractive football, and I like the way he comes across, I could see him as a good fit. Although that might be slightly ambitious. Who knows?
Having said all this, I repeat my call to not rock the boat and to stick with our current duo Pemberton and Elliot for now. We have a massive game this Saturday. Annoyingly our opponents Charlton had looked pretty dead and buried a few weeks back but they seem to have had something of a rejuvenation of late, sadly.
Three points please guys, lets start moving away from that bottom three.
