Alex Scott sold by City for club record fee

By Martin Booth  Friday Aug 11, 2023

Bristol City have sold their star teenage midfielder Alex Scott to Bournemouth for an undisclosed club record fee reported to be £25m.

The 19-year-old midfielder spent three-and-a-half years at Ashton Gate and was named City’s player of the year last season.

In a message on Instagram, the England under-20 international said that he will be “eternally grateful” to the club.

“Thank you to all of the coaches for giving me the opportunity in the first team at just 17, my teammates who have helped me on my journey and all of the staff who have made me so welcome. I wish everyone all the best in the future.

“A special thanks to you the fans for being behind me every step of the way and hearing my song ring out at Ashton Gate is something I’ll never forget.”

AFC Bournemouth chief executive, Neill Blake, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to the club, who is one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

“He’s a player that has vast experience at such a young age with strong technical ability and a really good footballing brain.

“Alex will be an excellent fit in our system, and we’re excited to see him continue to develop under Andoni’s management.”

City owner Steve Lansdown said: “Alex has developed into a top-class footballer and we have been privileged to watch him play over the past few years and wear the Bristol City shirt.

“We are sorry to see Alex go but Bournemouth have met our valuation and this is an opportunity for him to follow his football dream in the Premier League.

“He goes with our blessing and will always have a special place in the hearts of Bristol City fans.”
