All the reaction to Bristol City Women’s Conti Cup semi-final victory
Kiera Skeels has been at Bristol City Women for just over a week and has already written herself into the club’s history books, scoring the goal that took the Vixens to their first league cup final.
“I can’t believe it, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of getting to a cup final, I can’t believe it’s actually happened,” said the 20-year-old defender, who caretaker manager Matt Beard has brought in on loan from Reading for the remainder of the season.
“I’m just so happy. I’m so happy for this opportunity. To come in, help the team as much as I can, and get to the final.”
is needed now More than ever
Skeels said that she did not see her deftly flicked-on header hit the back of the net as she was immediately jumped on by her teammates.
“I don’t know what happened! I didn’t even see the ball go in the net and suddenly I had people running at me!
Beard said that he “absolutely delighted” with his team’s win.
He said: “It was a tough game tonight. There wasn’t much in it between the two teams… It was a tough game and semi-finals are won with moments like tonight with Kiera on a set-play.
“I think from my perspective, we are delighted to be (in the final) and the girls deserve so much credit again for another tough night.”
Centre-back Gemma Evans said that all of the team were “buzzing” after the match.
“It was a tough game but as you can see we all stuck together, fought to the end and I think we deserved it,” the Wales international said.
“I think we made it a bit difficult for ourselves in the first half but we upped the gears a bit in the second half.”
