Bristol City’s cup dream is over
In a game that had more twists and turns than the Cumberland Basin, Manchester City beat Bristol City 3-2 at Ashton Gate in the semi-final second leg of the Carabao Cup.
The runaway Premier League leaders won 5-3 on aggregate and booked themselves a trip to Wembley to face either Chelsea or Arsenal.
A goal midway through the second half for the Robins scored by Marlon Pack and a 94th minute equaliser from Aden Flint briefly gave the home side a glimmer of hope.
is needed now More than ever
But in committing players forward for the win, Bristol City were left exposed in defence and Kevin De Bruyne made it 3-2 to Manchester City with the last kick of the game.
It brought to the end a memorable cup run for Bristol City, who knocked out four Premiership teams on their way to the semi-final including Manchester United.
“I made the attacking changes at half-time to give us a leg up,” Bristol City manager Lee Johnson said after the match. “I just wish we’d got that second goal ten minutes earlier.
“They had 28 shots on goal. It was difficult but that was always going to be the case.”
