Bristol Rovers lose High Court battle
Bad news for Bristol Rovers – supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has successfully pulled out of buying the football team’s current stadium, thanks to a High Court ruling on Thursday.
It’s a significant set back in Rovers’ plan to build a new £30 million stadium on UWE land in Stoke Gifford.
Sainsbury’s had originally planned to turn the existing Memorial Stadium into a large supermarket but terminated the agreement a few weeks after consenting to purchase the stadium.
is needed now More than ever
Bristol Rovers believe that agreement with Sainsbury’s was legally binding, but the High Court ruled otherwise.
The monetary loss is significant for Rovers, who would have received multiple millions from the sale of Memorial Stadium.
Additionally, the football club must now pay extensive legal fees for the drawn-out court case. Thank goodness for their deep-pocketed new Jordanian owners.
