Bristol Rovers mock City fans on World Book Day

By Martin Booth  Thursday Mar 2, 2023

Dressing up as Where’s Wally has become a classic outfit for children going to school on World Book Day.

It wasn’t necessarily what Bristol City had in mind when they left red and white scarves on every seat at Ashton Gate ahead of Tuesday night’s FA Cup fifth-round clash with Manchester City.

But it was too good an opportunity to miss for Bristol Rovers’ social media admin.

“Happy World Book Day, Gasheads” tweeted the Bristol Rovers official account on Thursday morning, adding the hashtags #BristolRovers, #whereswally, #UTG and #WorldBookDay2023

It was the second of these which has incurred the wrath of both Rovers and City fans.

The official Bristol City FC Supporters replied: “This is proper odd…”

Twitter user Chipstead Gas said: “No just no, please stop”

Even Bristol comedian and actor Jayde Adams got involved, asking: “Is it meant to be a dig? Rovers calling City wallys? Don’t want to cast aspersions over either side but I know 5 year olds with better insults. If either club needs a roast writer, I’m available babe.”
