Caretaker manager Beard and star striker Salmon leave City following relegation
Former Bristol City striker Ebony Salmon will be playing her football for Racing Louisville in the USA next season.
Salmon’s departure from the club was announced on the same day as caretaker manager Mat Beard was revealed to be the new Liverpool manager.
Their exits are unsurprising as City’s relegation from the WSL mean that they will play next season in the semi-professional Championship.
is needed now More than ever
Twenty-year-old Salmon has been with City for two years. Her ten goals this season earned her a call-up to the Lionesses where she made her debut in February against Northern Ireland.
The newly formed Louisville kick off in the National Women’s Soccer League later this month.
Beard arrived in mid-January as maternity cover for Tanya Oxtoby, and despite taking their fight for survival to the last day, could not prevent City from being relegated from the WSL.
In his closing words, Beard said that he “can’t fault the effort of anyone at the club for everything that they have put in this season and taking it to the last day – I’m gutted that we couldn’t finish the job that we set out to do”.
The 43-year-old returns to Liverpool almost six years after leaving the club having won back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 and leading the Reds in their first Champions League campaign.
After returning from his spell with Boston Breakers in the USA, he enjoyed two years with West Ham, before a short spell at Bristol City, the highlight of which was taking the club to the Continental Cup Final.
