City Women get first win at new home ground
A 40-yard screamer from Abi Harrison and a calmly taken penalty by Simrat Jhamat against her old club were the goals that saw Bristol City Women get their first win of the Championship season.
Playing in front of 507 fans – including City men’s manager, Nigel Pearson – at the Robins High Performance Centre in Failand, City came from 1-0 down at half-time to secure the three points against Lewes.
Special buses were laid on from close to Ashton Gate and the centre to the ground, which is the men’s team’s training base and the women’s team’s new home ground.

“It’s been a tough pre-season,” said Harrison after the match. “We had to do a rebuild, that’s staff and players alike, but I think we’ve come back and we’re showing that we’ve put together a great team and what we can achieve I think is endless, so we’re looking forward to this season…
“Playing at home, that’s what we want. We want to enjoy it and we want other teams to come here and feel intimidated.”

City Women head coach Lauren Williams praised Harrison, saying that she has “so much talent”, and paid tribute to Jhamat for her cool head from 12 yards.
“So proud of the team today,” tweeted City Women chairman, Gavin Marshall. “Average age of the starting eleven – 20 yrs old. 9 players in the matchday squad are in the Academy or have come through the Academy. First win at the new home. 2nd half comeback 40 yard worldie. Brilliant crowd.”
