Ebony Salmon called into England squad
A new England manager has given Ebony Salmon her first full international call-up ahead ahead of the Lionesses‘ friendly game with Northern Ireland on February 23.
Bristol City’s star striker is familiar with the England youth set-ups, having played for her national team up to U19 level, including captaining the team that finished fourth at the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship in 2018.
Interim England manager, Hege Riise, has added Salmon to her 20-player squad for a five-day intensive training camp in Staffordshire.
is needed now More than ever
Twenty-year-old Salmon has scored nine goals this season, despite usually only featuring as a substitute under Vixens manager Tanya Oxtoby.
Salmon signed with City in 2019, having previously played for Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Manchester United.
“Ebony is a player who we have monitored closely for her club and through our development teams and is a young talented player who we think will benefit from exposure to the senior environment,” said former Norway midfielder Riise.
“She’s been performing consistently at club level, showing great speed and scoring goals so we are excited to welcome her on camp next week.”

City caretaker manager, Matt Beard, said that Salmon “thoroughly deserves this”.
She said: “She’s more than just a player off the shoulder and I’ve seen that close up over the last few weeks. She has a fantastic attitude and I’ll say it again, she thoroughly deserves this.
“She’s scored goals and is versatile up front so this is exciting for her, the club and England. She’s going to go to the top level because she has that hunger and desire, the nastiness you need and I’m delighted for her.”
