‘Frustrating because we did enough to win’

By Dave Skinner  Friday Apr 8, 2016

Lee Johnson rightly labelled Tuesday nights home clash to Neil Warnock’s Rotherham side as frustrating. Frustrating because we probably did enough to win it, but more so because of the nature of the football we faced.

There was a lot of time wasting, physical play, long balls, long throw-ins and a very well taken goal from Matt Derbyshire.

It made it even more frustrating that it was a Warnock team who extolled these anti-footballing tactics, we all know he is a negative, boring, annoying yet very successful manager, specifically at this level.

His Rotherham side have gone from being certain relegation candidates to being all but safe, especially if they can beat MK Dons this Saturday which is surely a six-pointer if ever there were one, as ever though, I doubt the winners will be awarded six points though.

So, given Rotherham’s remarkable turnaround a point isn’t too bad a return from what was, as I may have alluded to already, a frustrating night.

This game came after the so-called ‘free hit’ we’d had at Hull a few days before. If we continue that analogy I think its fair to say we missed but there is no shame in getting the odd footballing lesson from the teams at the higher echelons of this league who boast multiple players of Premier League caliber.

City are now faced with the proposition of being seven points clear of safety with six games remaining, a similar situation to where Leicester find themselves, albeit with slightly different rewards on offer for being successful.

So, just six games left of the 2015/2016 season. As we know, we are not quite over the line as it were quite yet, but post game pub chat very quickly turned to player of the season chat. I think personally Korey Smith or Jonathan Kodjia would be my choice but the point was certainly hotly debated.

We look forward to a home game against a Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday. They are chasing a play-off spot so once again we will be facing a tough test but I have a feeling about this one that we might actually come away with the full three points after a disappointing return from out two previous games this week.
