Gas Girls away shirt becomes part of National Football Museum collection
The National Football Museum has named their Bristol Rovers Women’s away shirt as their object of the week.
The Gas Girls’ special edition shirt in partnership with Bristol Pride is now in the permanent collection of the Manchester museum, who last year voted it the best bespoke women’s away shirt of the season.
The team, founded in 2019 by Bristol Rovers Community Trust, aim to address the issues of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia with the hopes of promoting equality and diversity with the purple strip, which has rainbow stripes on its sleeves and a matching rainbow number on the back.
is needed now More than ever
The National Football Museum’s Harriet Green said that the shirt “is so vibrant and eye-catching”.
She said: “The museum loved everything from the Gas Girls’ club crest which features a female pirate to the link-up with Bristol Pride. This is a progressive women’s team who want to establish their own identity, independent from the men’s team.”
Gas Girls club Secretary, Matthew Davies, said: “It’s a huge honour for our shirt to be recognised by the National Football Museum in Manchester.
“Promoting community is a key area within our club culture and to know that this shirt has been received so well by fans, people within the football industry and those from the LGBTQ+ community, is amazing to hear.
“We’re looking forward to working with Bristol Pride on future projects and we will continue to strive to tackle homophobia and discrimination of any form.”
