Gas Girls score 22 goals in record win

By Martin Booth  Monday Apr 19, 2021

Four players scored hat-tricks in a record-breaking Bristol Rovers Women’s victory on Sunday.

At their home ground of Lockleaze Sports Centre, the Gas Girls beat Gloucester City by the astonishing score of 22 goals to nil, with seven goals scored by Georgia Vandries.

“The hard work that the girls have put in during lockdown clearly showed today,” captain Natty Coles told Bristol24/7.

“The girls did well not letting the standard drop given the score line.

“However, the Gloucester City players kept going right to the final whistle and that shows great character. They should all be proud of their efforts today and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season!”

It was 12-0 at half-time on Sunday afternoon before ten further goals were scored in the second half to make the final score 22-0.

Goal scorers were Georgia Vandries (7), Rosanna Rocha (4), Zoe Fielden-Stewart (3), Libby Bell (3), Jamie-Leigh Worlock (2), Kelly Cutler, Anna Hubble and Annys Turner.

It now seems all but certain that the club will finish top of Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League Division One.

Last season’s league was declared null and void due to the pandemic, with the Gas Girls in the unique situation of now playing in their second inaugural season.

Gas Girls co-founder and club secretary, Matt Davies, said: “The girls were fantastic today and this is a result of their efforts through lockdown and since we got back into training.

“I have to say that the attitude from the players and coaches from Gloucester City was absolutely superb as well.

“To be in that position and simply not give in deserves an enormous amount of credit and respect. They are a credit to their club and we all wish them the best for the rest of the season.”
