Hartlepool fans celebrate promotion in Bristol
Millennium Square became the venue for the unofficial promotion party for Hartlepool Town fans on Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday morning.
Dozens of fans gathered in the square following Hartlepool’s National League play-off final victory against Torquay United at Ashton Gate.
The nearby Tesco on Cathedral Walk was doing a roaring trade, as a drummer helped lead the chanting fans celebrate promotion into the Football League.

Hartlepool won the match on penalties after it had finished 1-1 after extra-time.
Torquay’s goalkeeper Lucas Covolan had scored to take the match into an additional 30 minutes. But Torquay – whose manager is former Bristol City boss Gary Johnson – could not complete the dream comeback, with Hartlepool winning the penalty shootout 5-4.
Hartlepool fans had already gathered on Millennium Square the evening before the match, returning the next day after their team had secured their passage to League Two, where they will play Bristol Rovers next season.
