‘I take this opportunity to thank Cotterill’
This week sees the two-year anniversary of the reign of our leader and commander-in-chief Mr Steven Cotterill. I would very much like to take this opportunity to thank the man who has guided us from the foot League One to what I am sure will be Championship safety this term.
When we think of his predecessors we are reminded of what a roller-coaster affair managing the greatest football team on the planet can be.
Gary Johnson achieved wonderful things at the club and I will be forever thankful to him for that memorable season when we came within a whisker of the Premier League.
is needed now More than ever
He was a slightly controversial and erratic figure however and it was no surprise when he left after a drop in form. Millen was his replacement and sadly for us he proved, as he has done since, that he is best suited in a number two role as opposed to having the top job. He was a great number two though and something of a club legend so that failure hurt more than most.
After that we had Derek Mcinnes. A good young manager with a lot of promise who didn’t quite work out. I am happy to see him doing well north of the border though. We then had O’Driscoll who is now involved with the England youth set up.
Although the club, on the face of it at least, has made decent appointments post-Johnson, it is not until Cotterill that things have turned around, and for that we must all be grateful.
I want it to be known that although I am sometimes critical of the great man it is only meant in the way one might be to a family member, for whom the level of respect – and indeed love – is unconditional.
So, to the team. What a rubbish result we had last week at Rotherham, 3-0. It seems, judging by the statistics, that we played OK but didn’t quite get the rub of the green.
Having said that, and as we all know, the games against those around you take on a great significance when you are struggling and I really hope this was an odd blip as opposed to a sign of things to come.
This weekend see us entertain a Blackburn team under the new stewardship of Paul Lambert. If his new team perform anything like his Villa side he left earlier this year it should be three home points. Fingers crossed we can rid ourselves of the woes from last week and give the cider army some early festive cheer.
