Keeper Cousin’s heroics help Gas Girls into FA Cup second round
Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Charlotte Cousin put in a player of the match performance as Rovers secured their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Portishead Town Ladies.
It was the Gas Girls’ first ever match in the first round proper of the FA Cup in their short history and they clinically dispatched a team that sit in the league above them in the women’s football pyramid.
Abi Todd scored two and Laura Curnock scored one at Lockleaze Sports Centre, with Rovers learning their second round opponents on Monday.

Gas Girls manager Nathan Hallett-Young praised his team after the match on Sunday afternoon for the “superb” result.
He said: “Across the board, we’ve had a brilliant game. I think there’s no individual in there who hasn’t put absolutely everything into it.
“We said beforehand and across the week that we could cause an upset here and I’m glad that we have.”
Hallett-Young said he is glad that his players “really stepped up” against a club in the league above them.
He added: “For me, it could have been more than what it was. We have really shown what we can do.
“I also do think that Portishead also had their chances and if it wasn’t for our player of the match today, it could have been completely different but Charlotte had a really solid game so hat’s off to her.”
