Liam Manning named new manager of Bristol City
Liam Manning has become the new manager of Bristol City, with the club putting faith in the 38-year-old to lead them to the promised land of the Premiership.
Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown said that the former Oxford United manager “is a great fit for the club and the style of play we want”, revealing that Manning was the club’s first choice after the sacking of Nigel Pearson.
Manning joins Ashton Gate alongside Chris Hogg, who will become assistant head coach, with Lansdown hoping that the pair will “fulfil the ambition we all have for the club with this talented and committed group of players”.
is needed now More than ever
Manning said: “This is a terrific opportunity and one that I’m really looking forward to. If you look at the vision of the club and where they want to get to and how they want to get there I think there is really good fit and alignment with my journey and where I want to get to.
“We are custodians and you have to respect and understand the past and the culture of the area that you’ve moved and leave the club in a better state.
“We’ll be doing our upmost in terms of the day to day in putting really strong processes in place, getting emotionally invested in what we do and having that passion, that drive, that hunger to improve everything.”
Manning only became head coach of Oxford United on March 1. As a youth, he was on the books of Norwich City and Ipswich Town but spent his playing career mostly at lower league clubs around East Anglia.
He was coach of the West Ham under-23 side before joining City Football Group and becoming first director of coaching at New York City FC and then head coach at Lommel FC in Belgium.
He enjoyed a successful managerial spell at MK Dons where he guided the club to the League One play-off semi-final in his first season.
