‘Looking forward to Severnside derby’

By Dave Skinner  Friday Mar 4, 2016

Mid-table mediocrity, how very dull. Well, maybe not so dull. A few months back it seemed like something of a dream for City, but now it’s where I hope/expect us to finish.

So, why the big turn around? The facts must make slightly awkward reading for our previous boss. Five wins, three loses and one draw in the nine games since the departure of the man that took us up and gave us the most memorable season in years.

There have been two big changes since Steve left, a formation change that seemed so obvious it was painful and some new signings.

The work ethic and desire never diminished under Cotteril and thankfully it has remained since his departure. This the simple tactical change and the addition of a little quality have meant all the difference.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who would have liked to see Mr stubborn change things up earlier in the season and still see him at the helm presiding over this resurgence. But, noe we have Mr Johnson – and what a start he has made!

We go into (what seems only recently named as) the Sevenside derby in the best form we have been in all season. Cardiff have been up and down of late but sit seventh in the league just outside the play off spots. They have had a weird few years.

In, then out, of the Premiership. A Bond villain for an owner and a manager sacked for ‘exposing too much dirty linen in public’. That is an actual Vincent Tan quote by the way.

So, I’m not really sure what to expect to be honest. Despite the best efforts of the likes of Sky television (in building the game up by giving it silly names) both teams will be playing their second biggest rivals, if we are honest.

I am excited for Saturday, don’t get me wrong But if we were facing Rovers, or Cardiff were facing Swansea, the excitement levels would be doubled or tripled I’m sure.

Thankfully those in charge have relaxed the draconian travel measures that were imposed on the Bristol City fans that travelled to the away game earlier this season. Fingers crossed people keep their heads and we have a trouble-free three points for City – Bristol City that is, obviously.
