Match report: Bristol City Women 0-4 Chelsea

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Sep 29, 2019

It was a tough afternoon at the office for Bristol City Women as they suffered a 4-0 defeat to a dominant Chelsea side in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Chelsea were quickest out the blocks and their early high-press paid off three minutes in, when Magdalena Andersson’s blocked shot fell to the feet of Guro Reiten in the box, who made no mistake in finishing from close range.

Chelsea then doubled their lead seven minutes later, when Erin Cuthbert’s cross was volleyed home by Reiten who got her second of the game.

The south west London side got their third 17 minutes in, after the Blues latched onto a loose pass in midfield and countered. Kirby threaded it into So Yun Ji, who cut onto her right and beat Baggaley at her near post.

Baggaley denied Chelsea a fourth before the break with a brilliant reaction save to deny Fran Kirby’s long-range effort that was destined for the top corner.

Chelsea were dominant in possession once again in the second half, however City Women kept pushing and pressing to try and create chances.

Baggaley once again stopped Chelsea from adding a fourth, getting down quickly to push substitute Thorisdottir’s long-range effort away from danger.

City Women were resilient throughout the second half until 13 minutes from time when Chelsea got their fourth. Cuthbert burst down the left and drilled a ball into the box, where Sophie Ingle was on hand to tap home.
