Match report: Cardiff City 0-1 Bristol City

By James Crawley  Sunday Nov 10, 2019

Josh Brownhill’s stunning strike earned Bristol City their first win on Cardiff territory for 17 years, lifting the Robins to sixth in the Championship.

The on-field captain blasted in a right-footed shot from distance to take the three points back to Bristol.

The Bluebirds would it the woodwork three times at a chilly Cardiff City Stadium but ultimately they had little response to Brownhill’s second-half moment of brilliance.

“I know we hadn’t won here for a long time so I think that one was definitely for the fans,” Brownhill said in his post-match interview with Robins TV.

“It was a tough game. We know what they are about, we know they are going to cause problems with the players they have, the way they play but I thought we were excellent. We deserved the win and we defended very well.”

City head coach Lee Johnson added: “It’s a great day and the boys are buzzing. It gives them a four-day rest now, though obviously the internationals go away, but they can all feel good about themselves for a warrior-like performance.

“Was it a classic in terms of slick, champagne football? Absolutely not, but we have come away to a difficult place and got the result and, as you can hear, the boys are very happy with that.”
