Match report: Everton Women 2-0 Bristol City Women
Two superb goal from Chloe Kelly on the stroke of half-time saw Everton Women take all three points from their encounter with Bristol City Women side at Southport FC.
Kelly’s first came after she dispossessed Meaghan Sergeant in the City Women half and played a neat one, two with Simone Magill before tucking it in the back of the net off the post.
The winger’s second came on the stroke of half-time as she picked up a loose ball from twenty-five yards out and fired the ball into the top corner of the net.
is needed now More than ever
City Women manager Tanya Oxtoby rued the missed opportunities in what was a largely positive display in defeat on Sunday afternoon.
She said: “I think the first 44 minutes of that game was the best football we have played since I have been at the club, so it’s disappointing to go into the break 2-0 down because we’ve switched off for a couple of minutes and it has cost us.
“The movement off the ball was exceptional today, now we’ve got to be better in the final third and be more clinical, as well as cutting out the individual errors because both those goals were very preventable.
“The fact we’re talking about us dominating possession shows we’re moving in the right direction as a club and that’s where we want to move towards. Young Georgia Wilson made her debut today and played a full ninety minutes, so it shows we’re continuing to produce young players.”
