Matt Taylor is new Bristol Rovers manager
Matt Taylor has become the new Bristol Rovers manager and will be in the dug-out when the Gas travel to Crewe on Saturday in the second round of the FA Cup.
Taylor has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Memorial Stadium, with Andy Mangan leaving the club after more than a month as interim manager following the sacking of Joey Barton on October 26.
The 41-year-old played for clubs including Exeter City and Charlton Athletic before going into management at Exeter – winning promotion from League Two – and then Rotherham United.
is needed now More than ever
Taylor was relieved of his duties at Rotherham on November 13 with the Millers sitting in 22nd in the Championship, one league above Rovers who are currently 11th in League One, nine points off the play-off places.
Rovers chairman Hussain Al-Saeed said that he is “delighted” with the appointment of Taylor.
Al-Saeed said: “We would like to thank our fans for being patient with us throughout this thorough process whilst we identified the correct person to lead us in this new era for Bristol Rovers.
“Matt shared our visions of growing the club and has bought into our project. I am sure you will all join me in welcoming Matt to the club and wishing him every success.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Mangan for all of his efforts during his time as interim manager. We are confident that he will go on to have a successful career as a football manager and he will always be welcome here.”
Bristol Rovers Women are also playing in the FA Cup second round this weekend, taking on Keynsham Town at Lockleaze Sports Centre on Sunday with the winner already drawn to play away against Luton Town.
